North Korea, known officially as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (shortened DPRK) is a country located in East Asia, in the northern half of the Korean Peninsula, bordering South Korea and the People's Republic of China. Its capital city is Pyongyang. Officially considering itself a socialist state, North Korea is itself known as a dictatorship government.
Occupied by the Empire of Japan during the early 1900s, Korea was an Imperial Japanese subject until the Empire's defeat at the hands of the Allied Powers at the conclusion of World War II in 1945. In the war's aftermath and the emerging Cold War, Korea was divided along the 38th Parallel between the competing socialist and democratic powers vying for control of the region, resulting in the formation of North Korea and South Korea. North Korea and its socialist allies under the leadership of Kim-il Sung attempted to recapture the South in 1950, triggering the Korean War which ended in a truce between the two sides' respective allies in 1953. Tensions between the two nations rose over the following decades as North Korea became increasingly militarized under the combined regimes of Kim-il Sung and Kim Jong-il. Ensuring the continuation of the military ceasefire is the Demilitarized Zone, where North Korea faces certain intervention by the combined South Korea and U.S. forces in the event of any attempted invasion of the South.

NKA Coastal Battery[]
The NKA Coastal Battery is a military missile control site used to launch SSM (Surface-to-Surface) missiles towards opposing enemy naval ships. There are two central control stations on opposite sides of the Coastal Battery with a facility centrally located between them. This battery came to the attention of the United States in the aftermath of the sinking of the USS Clarence E. Walsh, caused by a missile launched from the battery. Third Echelon's Sam Fisher discovered upon infiltrating the base that the launch was unintentional, having been force-launched by a third party through an information warfare attack. Fisher would be forced to neutralize the battery's offensive capabilities when North Korea retaliated over the incident with a full-scale invasion of South Korea.
