The Makarov pistol (or the Makarov PM) is a Russian semi-automatic pistol, developed by the Soviet Union around 1951. The Makarov pistol became the standard issue sidearm for the Soviet Union from 1951 to 1991 under the leadership of Nikolay Fyodorovich Makarov.
Overview[]
The Makarov pistol was designed and developed in 1951 by the Soviet Union to become the standard-issue side arm for Soviet Union military personnel and policeman. The Makarov was designed to replace both the Tokarev TT-33 semi-automatic pistol and the Nagant M1895 during the time. The Makarov was then chosen for it's simple design (having fewer moving parts), while also being economically affordable, being easier to manufacture, as well as its stopping power.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell[]
During the Georgian Information Crisis in 2004, the Makarov PM was used by T'blisi policeman and also by the Georgian officers stationed in the Georgian Ministry of Defense Headquarters.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist[]
During the Blacklist Attacks in 2013, the Makarov PM-B is the first handgun that Sam Fisher picks up from an Engineer member during Blacklist Zero, the attack on Anderson Airforce Base in Guam. The Makarov pistol that Sam picks up is suppressed. It is shown to be used by Majid Sadiq during the Lumber Mill mission where Sadiq's men capture Sam and interrogate him. After Isaac Briggs breaches the room and dispatches Sadiq's surrounding men, he correctly identifies the pistol as Sadiq takes Sam as a human shield. During the very short cease of fire, Isaac tells Sadiq that he has only one round left but it turns out that he was out of ammunition.
The Makarov PM-B is the second black market handgun to be available for purchase.
Trivia[]
- Like many other weapons in the Splinter Cell series, the Makarov PM was not available for the player to use until Splinter Cell: Blacklist. It is actually the first sidearm the player is able to use in the campaign.
